Apple CEOs:  The Story of Steve Jobs and Tim Cook You Didn’t Know About

Steve Jobs hired Tim Cook to improve the Apple supply chain.  Steve Jobs wanted something similar to the Dell supply chain.  Tim Cook was brought in to reduce inventory and make Apple’s supply chain much more agile as well as leaner. Tim Cook went from Apple’s Chief Procurement Officer and took Steve Jobs place as Apple’s CEO.

Supply Chain and Leadership Information.

  • “We are the most focused company that I know of or have read of or have any knowledge of. We say no to good ideas every day. We say no to great ideas in order to keep the amount of things we focus on very small in number, so that we can put enormous energy behind the ones we do choose …..It’s not just saying yes to the right products, it’s saying no to many products that are good ideas, but just not nearly as good as other ones.” ~ Tim Cook, CEO Apple, Supply Chain Expert.
  • “Here’s to the crazy ones, the misfits, the rebels, the troublemakers, the round pegs in the square holes… The ones who see things differently — they’re not fond of rules… You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them, but the only thing you can’t do is ignore them because they change things… They push the human race forward, and while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius, because the ones who are crazy enough to think that they can change the world, are the ones who do.” ~ Steve Jobs, co-founder Apple Inc.
  • “Steve [Jobs] and I spent months getting to know each other before I joined Apple. He had no exposure to marketing other than what he picked up on his own. This is sort of typical of Steve. When he knows something is going to be important, he tries to absorb as much as he possibly can.”  ~ John Sculley, former CEO of Apple Inc.
  • “Companies that get confused, that think their goal is revenue or stock price or something. You have to focus on the things that lead to those.” ~ Tim Cook, Apple CEO

  • “Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma – which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of other’s opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.” ~ Steve Jobs
  • “I appreciate that, but maybe you’re looking out for your interests just a little bit more. I mean you shouldn’t be asking people to come down here and pay the freight on something they paid, it still ain’t good enough, I mean you think that’s right? I mean maybe you’re doing your job but why you gotta stop me from doing mine? Cause if you’re willing to go through all the battling you got to go through to get where you want to get, who’s got the right to stop you? I mean maybe some of you guys got something you never finished, something you really want to do, something you never said to someone, something… and you’re told no, even after you paid your dues? Who’s got the right to tell you that, who? Nobody! It’s your right to listen to your gut, it ain’t nobody’s right to say no after you earned the right to be where you want to be and do what you want to do!… You know, the older I get the more things I gotta leave behind, that’s life.”  ~ Rocky

  • “What we guard against around here is people saying, ‘Let’s think about it.’ We make a decision. Then we act on it.” ~ Sam Walton
  • “As an old-time small-town merchant, I can tell you that nobody has more love for the heyday of the smalltown retailing era than I do. That’s one of the reasons we chose to put our little Wal-Mart museum on the square in Bentonville. It’s in the old Walton’s Five and Dime building, and it tries to capture a little bit of the old dime store feel. But I can also tell you this: if we had gotten smug about our early success, and said, “Well, we’re the best merchant in town,” and just kept doing everything exactly the way we were doing it, somebody else would have come along and given our customers what they wanted, and we would be out of business today.”  ~ Sam Walton

  • “A sure sign of failure for a startup is when someone sends me logo-embroidered polo shirts. If your people are at shows and in public, it’s okay to buy for your own employees, but if you really think people are going to wear your branded polo when they’re out and about, you are mistaken and have no idea how to spend your money.” ~ Mark Cuban
  • “When you’ve got 10,000 people trying to do the same thing, why would you want to be number 10,001?” ~ Mark Cuban
  • “Open offices keep everyone in tune with what is going on and keep the energy up. If an employee is about privacy, show him or her how to use the lock on the bathroom.” ~ Mark Cuban
  • “It is so much easier to be nice, to be respectful, to put yourself in your customers’ shoes and try to understand how you might help them before they ask for help, than it is to try to mend a broken customer relationship.” ~ Mark Cuban
  • “You’ve gotta be differentiated and unique. You’ve gotta know what your core competency is and be great at it.”  ~ Mark Cuban Quotes
  • “It doesn’t matter how many times you fail. It doesn’t matter how many times you almost get it right. No one is going to know or care about your failures, and neither should you. All you have to do is learn from them and those around you because all that matters in business is that you get it right once. Then everyone can tell you how lucky you are.” ~ Mark Cuban

  • “Steve (Jobs’) brilliance is his ability to see something and then understand it and then figure out how to put it into the context of his design methodology – everything is design.” ~ John Sculley, former CEO Apple
  • “I remember going into Steve’s (Jobs) house, and he had almost no furniture in it. He just had a picture of Einstein, whom he admired greatly, and he had a Tiffany lamp and a chair and a bed. He just didn’t believe in having lots of things around, but he was incredibly careful in what he selected.” ~ John Sculley
  • “I saw lots of music devices. I loved playing with music devices. And like most of the world, I thought of a music device as a music device. Steve Jobs tends to look beyond that, and he doesn’t see a music device as having any importance at all,he sees music itself to a person as a being the important thing.” ~ Steve Wozniak, co-founder Apple
