Driver Jobs Will Be Replaced by Autonomous Vehicles.

Have you wondered what jobs will be replaced by autonomous vehicles?  If your job has a steering wheel you may want to start increasing your skillset because your job won’t be around for too long.  Automobile manufacturers continue to role out cars with steering assist and touting self driving vehicles in the near future.  Once a vehicle is able to drive by itself why would drivers be needed?  Soon when you click for an Uber a car will come without a driver.  It will just be a normal thing.  Instead of truck drivers having to rest and sleep, autonomous trucks will drive 24/7 until service is needed on the truck.  The world is changing faster than ever.  For those who don’t think self driving vehicles will ever be on the road… you are wrong.  Blockbuster didn’t think Netflix and streaming would take away their business and look what happened to Blockbuster.  The taxi industry was a great business to be in until Uber and Lyft came along.  Now autonomous vehicles will soon replace the jobs for taxi drivers as well as Uber and Lyft drivers.

We aren’t trying to scare people who are in the transportation industry.  We hope to provide information so that people are ready for when autonomous vehicles start replacing driver jobs.  People are already using driver assist on many cars that are on the road.  How much longer will it be until cars can drive by themselves without any driver behind the wheel?

Quotes on Autonomous Vehicles and Jobs Being Automated.

  • “Labor accounts for 75% of the cost of transporting shipments by truck, so adopters can begin to realize those savings. Beyond that, while truckers are prohibited from driving more than 11 hours per day without taking an eight-hour break, a driverless truck can drive for the entire day.” ~Ryan Petersen
  • “Self-driving cars will double the capacity of highways because the variability of human drivers will be taken out of the equation.”  ~Dave Waters
  • “Self-driving cars are the natural extension of active safety and obviously something we should do.” ~Elon Musk.
  • “Connectivity offers a great opportunity for General Motors. When you look at the investment we have made in OnStar and putting 4GLT in and the access you have to not only put data in, and we haven’t really tapped into the data you can use from the vehicle.” ~Mary Barra, GM CEO.
  • “In addition to doing our jobs at least as well as we do them, intelligent robots will be cheaper, faster, and far more reliable than humans. And they can work 168 hours a week, not just 40. No capitalist in her right mind would continue to employ humans.” ~Kevin Drum
  • “Once you trust a self-driving car with your life, you pretty much will trust Artificial Intelligence with anything.” ~Dave Waters.
  • “We can now rely on immense processing power and advanced sensors that would not have been possible only a few years ago. And while it will still take time before we see self-driving cars everywhere on our streets, over a million auto fatalities per year worldwide make this a risk worth taking.” ~Sergey Brin
  • I think we see the merging of several worlds, the tech industry, the internet and the automotive industry. These two worlds merging is like a smart phone on wheels, or you can say it’s a car that has many of the capabilities of smart phones and computers and so on.” ~Dieter Zetsche.
