Introduction to IOT & Smart City.

The Internet of Things (IoT) refers to the connection of devices, such as sensors, actuators, and other objects, to the internet. These devices can collect and exchange data, allowing them to communicate with one another and with other systems in order to perform various tasks.

A smart city is a city that uses advanced technologies, such as the IoT, to improve the quality of life for its citizens. This may involve using sensors and other technologies to monitor and optimize various city functions, such as traffic flow, energy use, and waste management.

Some examples of how the IoT and other technologies are being used in smart cities include:

  1. Transportation: Smart cities may use sensors and other technologies to optimize traffic flow, reduce congestion, and improve public transportation.
  2. Energy: Smart cities may use sensors and other technologies to monitor and optimize energy use, in order to reduce energy consumption and lower costs.
  3. Environmental monitoring: Smart cities may use sensors and other technologies to monitor and manage environmental factors, such as air quality, water quality, and waste management.
  4. Public safety: Smart cities may use sensors and other technologies to enhance public safety, by monitoring for potential hazards and alerting authorities in the event of an emergency.

IoT and Smart City go hand and hand.  The number of connected products continues to grow.  We have refrigerators, cars, washing machines, all connected.  This is just the start.  As 5G comes about more and more products will be connected with extremely high speeds.  The world is changing faster than ever.

  • “Without change there is no innovation, creativity, or incentive for improvement. Those who initiate change will have a better opportunity to manage the change that is inevitable.” ~ William Pollard

  • “If you can’t describe what you are doing as a process, you don’t know what you’re doing.” ~ W. Edwards Deming
  • “If you think of standardization as the best that you know today, but which is to be improved tomorrow; you get somewhere.” ~ Henry Ford, founder Ford Motor Company
