Accelerating Automation Across Industries.

The pandemic has showed us we need to be prepared for the next disruption.  Many of us heard about possible pandemics but paid little attention because it had never impacted the entire world.  In the past automation has been about improving productivity, now it is also about keeping the work going, social distancing and limiting person to person contact.  People can get sick and pass it on to others, machines can’t.

Here are some specific examples of how automation is changing the US economy:

  • In the manufacturing sector, robots are being used to automate tasks such as welding, painting, and assembly. This has led to increased productivity and lower costs, but it has also displaced some workers.
  • In the retail sector, self-checkout kiosks are becoming increasingly common. This has reduced the need for cashiers, but it has also made it more convenient for customers to shop.
  • In the transportation sector, self-driving cars are being developed. This could eventually lead to the elimination of truck drivers and taxi drivers.
  • In the healthcare sector, robots are being used to perform surgery and other medical procedures. This has improved the accuracy and efficiency of care, but it has also led to job losses for some healthcare workers.
