Will Robots Replace Human Financial Advisors?

Robots will replace various aspects of human jobs in areas such as financial advisors, attorneys and supply chain optimization.  This article will focus on financial advisors.  Some people are fine with robo-advisors while some people still want to deal with a person.  A recent survey mentioned millennials are twice as likely as baby boomers to consider a robot financial advisor for investments.  Why are companies changing?  This quote may help you understand:  “If your customer base is aging with you, then eventually you are going to become obsolete or irrelevant. You need to be constantly figuring out who are your new customers and what are you doing to stay forever young.” ~Jeff Bezos.

It is possible that robots could be used to perform some of the tasks currently carried out by human financial advisors, such as analyzing financial data and making recommendations based on that analysis. However, it is unlikely that robots will completely replace human financial advisors in the near future, as there are many tasks that require human judgment, empathy, and interpersonal skills.

There are a few key reasons why robots may not completely replace human financial advisors:

  1. Complex tasks: Many financial tasks require complex problem-solving and decision-making abilities, as well as the ability to adapt to changing situations. While robots can be programmed to perform certain tasks, they may not be able to handle the complexity and unpredictability of financial markets as well as humans.
  2. Human-machine collaboration: It is likely that robots and human financial advisors will work together in the future, rather than one replacing the other. For example, robots could be used to perform tasks such as data analysis and portfolio management, while human financial advisors could handle tasks that require human judgment and decision-making, as well as tasks that require interpersonal skills and empathy.
  3. Trust and rapport: Building trust and rapport with clients is an important part of the financial advising process. While robots may be able to provide financial advice, they may not be able to build the same level of trust and rapport with clients as human advisors.

Overall, while robots may be able to perform some tasks currently carried out by human financial advisors, it is unlikely that they will completely replace human advisors in the near future due to the complexity and nuance of many financial tasks, the potential for human-machine collaboration, and the importance of trust and rapport in the financial advising process.

Robots Replacing Humans

Will Robots Replace Humans in Jobs?

  • “We are approaching a time when machines will be able to outperform humans at almost any task. I believe that society needs to confront this question before it is upon us: if machines are capable of doing almost any work humans can do, what will humans do?” ~Moshe Vardi
  • “It’s not if robots are going to replace humans in jobs, it is when are robots going to replace humans?” ~Dave Waters
  • “It’s robots’ increasing capacity to mimic organisms physically and cognitively that has many people scared. Although most Americans may not be apocalyptic worrywarts, they have grave reservations about automation. They’re more disposed toward driverless vehicles and robot caregivers, but there’s a limit how much innovation they’re willing to embrace.” ~Les Horvitz
  • “Sometime in the next 40 years, robots are going to take your job. I don’t care what your job is. If you dig ditches, a robot will dig them better. If you’re a magazine writer, a robot will write your articles better. If you’re a doctor, IBM’s Watson will no longer “assist” you in finding the right diagnosis from its database of millions of case studies and journal articles. It will just be a better doctor than you.” ~Kevin Drum
  • “The financial advisor career may be a thing of the past in the near future if robots have their way.” ~Dave Waters
