How to Get a Job in Supply Chain Management

Supply Chain Management is a great place to have a career.

Supply Chain Information.

  • “There comes a time when you ought to start doing what you want. Take a job that you love. You will jump out of bed in the morning. Isn’t that a little like saving up sex for your old age?” ~ Warren Buffet

Maybe it paid off the mortgage on the house and got the kids through college, but those things were on the side—I did it for the buzz. I did it for the pure joy of the thing. And if you can do it for the joy, you can do it forever.” ~ Stephen King
  • “Never continue in a job you don’t enjoy. If you’re happy in what you’re doing, you’ll like yourself, you’ll have inner peace. And if you have that, along with physical health, you will have had more success than you could possibly have imagined.” ~ Johnny Carson

Apple Supply Chain Management

  • “Here’s to the crazy ones, the misfits, the rebels, the troublemakers, the round pegs in the square holes… The ones who see things differently — they’re not fond of rules… You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them, but the only thing you can’t do is ignore them because they change things… They push the human race forward, and while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius, because the ones who are crazy enough to think that they can change the world, are the ones who do.” ~ Steve Jobs, co-founder Apple Inc.
  • “Steve [Jobs] and I spent months getting to know each other before I joined Apple. He had no exposure to marketing other than what he picked up on his own. This is sort of typical of Steve. When he knows something is going to be important, he tries to absorb as much as he possibly can.”  ~ John Sculley, former CEO of Apple Inc.
  • “Steve [Jobs] brilliance is his ability to see something and then understand it and then figure out how to put it into the context of his design methodology – everything is design.” ~ John Sculley

IKEA Supply Chain Innovation

IKEA supply chain innovation is a key reason IKEA has been so successful.  The first time I went into IKEA I thought it was just an amazing store with amazing products.  I can remember going up the escalator at the IKEA in California making reference it was like Disneyland.  And yes, I did get made fun of.  The person I was with did not think it was Disneyland.

If there is such a thing as good leadership, it is to give a good example. I have to do so for all the IKEA employees.” ~ Ingvar Kamprad, founder of IKEA.

Sam Walton did amazing things with the Walmart supply_chain.  Much of it was done out of necessity because when Walmart first started out they were in rural areas and small towns.  “Made in America” is a great book by Sam Walton.  A good read for anyone interested in retail a well as supply_chain.
